Challenge
Finnish boat builders, Nautor’s Swan, approached Bowmaster about designing a submarine anchor system that could be removed from the vessel when it was in racing mode.
The boat’s owner was fastidious about weight in his boat and wanted the ability to remove the complete anchoring system to give him a weight advantage in race events.
Solution
Working with the boat yard, the Bowmaster design team took the standard submarine anchor system and modified it to suit the owner’s requirements and the vessel’s design.
The rub flange and hawse pipe are the only permanently mounted anchor fittings on the boat. The rest of the anchor system is in a modular format.
A plug is inserted where the system was and is sealed to provide an airtight, lighter hull. And the real beauty of this solution is that the boat can remain in the water while the changeover takes place.
The end solution was a plug and play anchoring system, perfect for racing.
