Feadship's largest yacht at the time of launch

Challenge

Feadship approached Manson Anchors with their biggest project to date. They had designed M/Y Madame Gu, a 99m motor yacht that was to be the largest Feadship yacht at the time of launch. She was also the largest superyacht to ever be built in the Netherlands.

One of the most unique features of this particular yacht was the long and slender blue hull; it was important the anchors complemented this feature. The designer Andrew Winch said, “Madame Gu’s speed, size, technical complexity and levels of exterior and interior detailing make her a record breaker and brave obliterator of industry conventions, taking motor yacht design to new territories.”

With the long hull and bow being a feature of the yacht, the designers wanted to ensure this was not disrupted by the anchors and deployment systems. Feadship had not used a hiding anchor pocket configuration before but knew Manson were known for their capabilities in this area and it would be the best solution.

Solution

Manson Anchors fabricated two 1195kg Manson Hiding Anchors from 316L Stainless Steel.

The Manson Hiding Anchor has inward tapered flukes that allow for the base plate to sit wider than the fluke tips, this design enables the anchor to sit flush to the hull.

Madame Gu’s anchors were glass bead blasted and the base plate was mirror polished by the Manson Anchors polishing team.

The Hiding Anchors were Lloyd’s Register Type Approved as High Holding Power (HHP), meeting the requirements of the yacht.

The large anchors were delivered to the Feadship Makkum facility on time and installed by Feadship crew. The Manson Hiding Anchors fit the pre constructed pockets perfectly and the base plate sat flush against the hull.

M/Y Madame Gu was awarded ‘Motor Yacht of the Year’ at the 2014 World Superyacht Awards along with ‘Best Displacement Motor Yacht 2000GT and above’.
